LR - LIGHT RIGID

LR - Light Rigid Training Course - $650

This training program is designed for people who wish to attain a “Light Rigid” Drivers licence. Light Rigid Vehicles are typically small school buses, minibuses or light courier vehicles and Ambulance Emergency Vehicles. Many professional drivers start with these vehicles as a courier or delivery driver, driving for themselves as part of another business.

A Light Rigid ‘Class LR’ covers a rigid vehicle with a GVM of more than 4.5 tonnes but not more than 8 tonnes. Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM. Also includes vehicles with a GVM up to 8 tonnes which carry more than 12 adult including the driver and vehicles in class ‘C’.

LR vehicles include:

  • Small trucks with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) up to 8 tonnes. Any towed trailer must not weigh more than nine tonnes GVM
  • Buses that seat more than 12 adults including the driver and a GVM up to 8 tonnes

To apply for an LR licence, you must:

  • Have held a class C licence, (except a learner licence) or equivalent for one year or more. Any time you’ve spent on a P1 licence counts, but you can’t practice to drive an LR vehicle, or upgrade to an LR licence until you hold a P2 or full class C licence
  • Pass the LR knowledge test
  • Pass an eyesight test

Step 1. Pass the heavy rigid knowledge test at your local motor registry or service NSW (practice the test here) RMS fee $47.

Step 2. Pass the eyesight test and purchase your HVCBA learners logbook class hr. RMS fee $27.

Step 3. Phone FHV driver training school 97212646 to book a date for your HR licence course.

Step 4. Attend and successfully complete your training course.

Step 5. Return to the motor registry, and apply for your upgraded licence. You will be given an interim licence while your plastic card is processed. RMS fee $27.
